Brockwood Park

Brockwood Park is the name of the place where me and D live and work. It consists of an international boarding school, where students between the ages of 14 and 19 come to learn from a curriculum they themselves put together and it is a very dynamic and really quite different, liberal school. It was founded by J. Krishnamurti as was the Krishnamurti Study Centre,

which is also on the grounds, where people can come to find a quiet, peaceful space to contemplate or study Krishnamurti's recorded talks and books. In the Centre the Krishnamurti Foundation Trust also has an office, where I work in the afternoons, whose responsibility it is to preserve and spread the work of K, as we call Krishnamurti most of the time here.

Brockwood Park is an old estate with a grand main building, a tower,

servant's quarters and cottages in the surrounding vicinity, like Dell where we live - that used to be the chauffeur's cottage.

It has a walled in vegetable garden,

a rose garden,

an Art barn,

and the Grove - a botanical garden of sorts, a haven with redwood trees, rhododendrums, azaleas and a multitude of other exotic trees and plants planted in the 1800s, I think.

Most of all I love the surroundings however - I wouldn't keep my sanity for long if I didn't have access to all the excellent walks around here with the trees and fields to talk to. The first year we lived here all I would do in the afternoons would be walking, exploring all the footpaths within a wide perimeter. I love walking...

And I like this little community we live in. It has its flaws as do all places but there is an openess and there are a lot of laughs heard, people meet and live a simple life.

  • I thank you God for this most amazing day, for the leaping greenly spirits of trees, and for the blue dream of sky and for everything which is natural, which is infinite, which is yes. e. e. cummings
